Apply Like a Boss: Supporting Your Rising Senior Through the College Process

The college admissions process has officially begun: You and your 11th grader have met with your assigned counselor to discuss the "college list." Standardized testing and campus visits are under way. As your family embarks on this intense and high-stakes several months, you want to provide the right amount of structure and support for your child. That’s where Eva Ostrum, a former Yale admissions officer and lifelong educator, can help. Working with Eva interactively using your child’s individual profile, you will learn how to read your child’s “application folder” like an admissions officer and then use that knowledge to make the college admissions process accessible and manageable for your rising senior. Unlike other methods that focus on packaging, branding, or simply “getting in,” Eva’s holistic approach highlights your child’s strengths and identifies opportunities for a rich and rewarding college experience.  By the end of your three hours with Eva, you will learn to Determine where your child fits into a specific school's applicant pool and how to translate that assessment into a meaningful and strategic college list; Appraise where extracurricular activities fit into your child's profile and how to present them for maximum impact; Select teachers to write recommendations that make a difference for your child and identify an appropriate supplementary recommender; Employ a research-based test prep strategy to raise scores, including persistently lagging sections of the test; and Evaluate your child's candidacy like an admissions officer at a highly selective school. Registration will be limited to the first 10 respondents, so reserve your place now!  A complimentary buffet breakfast will be served.
